Key not recognised

BMW reports "key not recognised" or fails to start although the key is present. Often: CAS transponder read error or data loss in the CAS due to a voltage drop.

Engine cranks but will not start (immobiliser)

Starter turns, engine fails to start — immobiliser stays active. Typical CAS/ISN synchronisation issue, especially after a control unit swap.

Water damage / short circuit

Footwell moisture reaches the CAS electronics. Often not visible from the outside; the original BMW diagnostic system shows communication errors in the CAS protocol. Cloning possible if the chip remains readable.

CAS after a vehicle accident

After an accident, airbag deployment or a theft attempt: CAS damaged or blocked. We clone onto a replacement CAS if the data set is still readable.

How the send-in service works

  1. Inquiry and pre-diagnosis with the original BMW diagnostic system

    Send us the vehicle data (model, series, year) and the CAS generation. We assess whether cloning is possible for your CAS variant. On-vehicle diagnosis with the original BMW diagnostic system is recommended before removal.

  2. Remove the CAS safely and ship it

    On E-series cars the CAS sits beneath the steering wheel; on F-series cars the installation location varies. Removal instructions on request. Pack the unit in anti-static film, ship it securely. Shipping label on request.

  3. Read out the data with Flex / BDM

    CAS1/2/3: direct readout of the key data set via BDM or EEPROM. CAS3+: extended procedure. Full data backup before any transfer.

  4. Clone onto a replacement CAS

    Transfer of all CAS data regions onto an identical, tested replacement CAS. Key data set, VIN binding, ISN (Internal Secret Number) — completely transferred.

  5. Function test and return shipment

    Final check with the original BMW diagnostic system (for in-house customers): key recognition, engine start, immobiliser status. Insured return via DHL Express. Written report and 12-month warranty.
